Inspiration

My girlfriend and I started texting each other random quotes at random times... Quotes that speak to our heart, inspire or encourage us in some way. Quotes are so powerful... A simple sentence or two have the capacity to change your day, your attitude and your life. You will probably see many quotes on this blog.. simply because we LOVE them. We hope you will be inspired by them as well (and maybe pass it on to someone you know). Here's one I came across today...

"Peace is not the absence of problems,
it is the presence of God."

Baby Kit

If you are at all leery about giving over-the-counter medication to your newborn, try homeopathic tablets! They are easy to administer, there are no side-effects, and they are yummy (or at least that's what my 2 year old says).

I am fortunate to have a relative who is a homeopathic physician. While I was pregnant, she had a great list of homeopathic medicines to have on hand for my newborn.

Allium Cepa: for runny nose when trying to get over a cold.

Calcarea Phosphate: teething and growing pains (this is one of the ingredients in Hylands teething tablets).

Belladonna: for fevers and inflammation.

Bryonia Alba: for crankiness and irritability(the label says for Dry Cough and Arthritis Pains) but really it helps a much wider spectrum, to long to put on the title).

Carbo Veg: indigestion or tummy ache.

Apis Mell: for bug bites or minor rashes caused by an allergic reaction.

Chamomilla: for irritability, restlessness, sleeplessness. This is also great for calming children while traveling on airplanes.

Arnica Montana: for bruises and muscle soreness for kids and also for moms -especially after giving birth to help with healing and swelling.

These work for babies, toddlers and adults and can be purchased at Whole Foods and most health food stores. Hylands is a trusted brand and is recommended by Dr. Sears .

-Antibacterial Soap, Hot Water and a Splash of Distilled Vinegar: for disinfecting toys and vinyl/board books after child recovers from illness.

Talk about being FEARFUL

We are living in a world filled with FEAR as we speak.

Today's US and world news report that "governments are racing to find and contain pockets of swine flu around the globe, seeking to stem both the threat of a pandemic and public panic." As the world is in a state of unknown, we can either freeze in fear or take action and do what we can to prevent ourselves and our children from getting this possibly deadly flu. It is also a good idea to prepare our home for a possible pandemic. Check out Center for Disease Control and Prevention. Below are some helpful info from the site.

10 Ways to Prevent Swine Flu

1. Wash your hands
2. Use alcohol-based hand sanitizer
3. Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth.
4. Limit your exposure to those who have flu symptoms.
5. Stay home if experiencing flu symptoms
6. Take Vitamin C
7. Rest and eat balanced diet
8. Make sure you're helping your children follow the above habits
9. Routinely clean and disinfect
10. Immediately report to the doctor if you have any flu symptoms.

Preparing Your Home for Possible Pandemic
The CDC recommends stocking nonperishables such as:
—Canned foods
—Protein or fruit bars
—Dry cereal
—Dried fruit
—Bottled water
—Baby food
—Pet food

Other items to prepare: Cash, flashlights, batteries, portable radio, manual can opener, garbage bags, toilet paper, prescription drugs. Crackers, Gatorade, and other foods good for sickness. Don't forget diapers and wipes for your little ones!

Why Fearless Mama?

If you are a Mama, you know that the MOMENT your baby was born, you entered a different universe... A universe that overflows with LOVE that is beyond comprehension..but also FEAR that consumes your whole being. Us Mamas get fearful and anxious over little things from naps, teething and constipation to bigger things such as illnesses, accidents and deaths. Jesus tells us that "in the world you will have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world" (John 16:33).

We do not have to live our lives in fear. Not only are there so many great resources out there that can help answer your questions and resolve your issues, but try talking to one of the countless Mamas around you... You will most likely find that she has or is going through the same thing you are, and will give you the best advice even if you don't ask (these are the best)! But most importantly, we do not have to fear because God is with us. Psalm 27:1 says "the Lord is my light and salvation; Whom shall I fear? The Lord is the strength of my life; Of whom shall I be afraid?".

Our desire is that this blog will help, encourage and uplift Mamas out there that are trying to be the very best that they can be to their loved ones! We hope you will join us on our quest to becoming Fearless Mamas!
